Literature Text

I sit cross-legged at a small campfire.
Its warmth and light holding back demons
Who nash their horrid yellow teeth with threats most dire;
The words exploding around me like bombs.

Sultry sirens desire to hypnotize
And call my soul away to diverse paths
In the dark where hide gorgons with green eyes,
Pale grey ogres, and ravenous wraths.

This cold night is long but I will not rest
Nor sleep for I must keep my light burning.
Those lost in the fog search for this hill crest
Where I watch the stars and wait for morning.

Come join my vigil 'til the night is gone,
Rest your aching bones, and sit at my pyre.
Look to the east for the much wanted dawn.
Come phoenix!  Cleanse this weary world with fire.
I had a long time to meditate today.

The last two stanzas are so beautiful that I felt compelled to read them out loud (I did; loved them even more).  Bravo.
